Rainbow Buildings and Black Webs

Currently sipping a mug of honey-saturated tea and kicking back to some Imagine Dragons.  Aka feeling pretty damn good.  Earlier today I was being a real downer - and after classes were over, I sat down for about four hours straight and slapped my feelings onto a large piece of paper. Afterwards I dragged my lazy ass out the door for a jog in the gorgeous weather. Man those endorphins are really amazing. I got back to my dorm in much higher spirits and actually liked the "piece-of-shit" that I made today.  I noticed that lately my emotions fluctuate a lot.  I let little things get to me and it's almost like I enjoy wallowing in unjustified feelings of self-pity.  I realize that happiness isn't something that's just going to fall into my lap - it's a day-to-day journey and a mindset.  So I am going to try harder to be happy and not dwell on what-ifs all the time.  I know my recent posts seem pretty confusing and jumbled up, but blogging it out is my way of sorting my thoughts, so please bear with me! ^^  

That upper left corner was pretty fun to make - I colored pieces of grey paper, wrote out my negative thoughts and then ripped them up, collaged them together, and overlaid marker and pastels. The rest was just extremely random.  The foot being Exhibit A. 

Watching sail boats and canoes from the dock. Biking at night. Minerva's terrifying array of free shirts from career fair. The most amazing chocolate covered pretzels (I devoured that bag in practically one go).  Weiwei snapchatted me a picture of him with the Snapchat team (sooo meta). I Am A Walrus

Oh wow it's been quite some time since I last posted. A lot has happened since then! I enjoyed another month and a half of work hanging out with friends/family, watched a number of terribad movies (which include the Love Guru, GI Joe, Recall, and LOL (starring the one and only Miley Cyrus)), went to the beach (and didn't get sunburned!), took a trip into the city, ate some delicious chicken curry katsu, went to a couple of asian parties, started and finished watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood in 4 days (64 episodes….), watched the Korean drama I Hear Your Voice which was pretty amazing (I recommend it to anyone who has a few days to waste), bought a tablet (<3 wacom intuos5), packed up my life, and moved back to Boston.  Since then I've performed a few times with ADT, went to a DT workshop, helped out a bit with rush week, caught up with friends, met new people, and played a little too much pool. Classes also started two days ago! So far I've been late to almost every single class….I really need to get my shit together.  Also in a few hours I will be leaving for…. A FALL OUT BOY CONCERT. HA I'm so excited! When they announced that they were going on tour, I decided I'd finally go see them before they could break up again lol. So yeah, that's the last two months of my life poorly summarized in one paragraph.

Went out for some sushi buffet to celebrate Gabriel's 20th! Also some random shots from the beach, city-bound train, and bananagrams. Nolan somehow managed to buckle himself into my 5-year-old sister's car seat….

FOOD! Eggplant, roasted red pepper, tomato, and muenster cheese on fried bread.  Greek yogurt with fresh peaches, blueberries, walnuts and dried cranberries. Lunch with my mom :) Sushi buffet!!!<3<3<3 and of course, the best for last, chicken katsu curry.

Ed came to visit! For lunch I cooked some (too) spicy eggplant and fried mantou. Also, Nicole moved! That's me and her cat reunited at her new house. Also I'm not sure if my friends are turning 20 or 5. 

Giant tower someone built out of little wooden blocks! (it spanned two floors) Kaykay at the creek <3 The pennies my coworker left on my desk everyday. All my stuff packed and ready to go! Pool halls, lol. Brian taught me how to actually play minesweeper and I won my first game ever. Eunice brought back this weird pop-rocks-chocolate…that actually kind of hurt to eat, but tasted so good.  Last but not least, my disgusting-wendy's-infested cubicle.  Good times.

HULK SMASH

So I had a pretty relaxing, and surprisingly productive weekend ^^ Normally I don't wake up until noon, and even then, I spend at least an hour rolling around doing nothing before dragging myself out of bed and into the shower. BUT this weekend I woke up early both days. Saturday for grocery shopping, and today to make breakfast for everyone (my parents were trying to figure out who's birthday it was, or whether they had forgotten about mother's day or something. Jokesters.) I also turned a free-career-fair-tee into a Hulk-muscle-tank. Maybe it will inspire me to work out.  Which reminds me, I finally did some physical exercise for the first time in 2 months and may or may not have pulled a muscle lifting 2-pound weights…..

Yesterday I also played some League of Legends with Thomas.  Man, I swore I would never play that game, but there I was, hunched over my computer, madly clicking away. At first I was kind of confused as to why people enjoy playing, but then I finally killed the ass hole who kept killing me…. :)

Today was a pretty average day at work.  Had the genius idea to listen to Asian dramas (下一站, 幸福) while working, which made it go much faster. Sad part is that it almost made me cry in the office…actually it was more bordering on pathetic. We also tried this deli place for the first time. IT WAS AWESOME. Definitely deserved their 4.5 star rating on yelp. I was so caught up in the whirlwind of activity that I completely forgot to take a picture. Oh well, next time for sure.

Gold Rain

Do you think it's normal for someone to take so many pictures? This is probably less than a 10th of the pictures I've taken over these past two weeks. It's such a pain in the ass to sort through them that I almost miss the days before I had a smart phone….but then again, what a horrifying thought. Anyway, enjoy the giant bulk of pictures. Naturally they are accompanied by short essay descriptions. 

Completed my very first commission! My commissioner was very happy with it = happy sonya. Damn what a huge milestone, I can barely contain my feelings. My dad pointed out that I probably got paid about $1 an hour for this thing but I don't even care >:D 

First two pics are from a two hour lunch break we took the other day lol. Felt pretty bad, but the food was so worth it. First Wendy's frosty! Second row is from my weekend boston trip. Mmm Wagamama's so goooood (asian fusion). Went halvsies with Nolan on King's sandwiches. $4 cheesesteak meal at this pool/arcade place. Freaking delicious burger - Our boss decided to take all the interns out to lunch! They bought us food, and then basically paid us for 2 hours of work to sit there and eat it. I'm sorry for all the times I've complained about my job xD

After a grueling bus ride (seriously HOW was there traffic at midnight on a THURSDAY??) finally arrived at Boston! Lol check out my very attractive friends. Also matt was very pleased with his newly purchased Gap pants. Not sure if you can tell or not. We grabbed lunch at Rebecca's Cafe, a place that he's been raving about since forever (a must-read) and gotta say I was extremely satisfied with the Bello Bello and my Honest Tea.  Honestly.

Four moments where an ungodly artsy urge took over my body and before I knew it, I had snapped these babies.  I call the first one, Bricks and Feet: The struggle between everyday existence. You can catch it at my next exhibit in downtown manhattan. Okay I don't know where I'm going with this, so I'll just stop. Took it while we were walking from the Prudential (after the gap pants). Second is taken at Boston Public Gardens (I think) Third is from underneath a cell tower.  We took a field trip there for work the other day, and holy jesus we were baking underneath that thing. Nevertheless, a pretty cool pic. Lastly we've got a small sample of the amazing fireworks I saw last week. We were so close, that when they exploded, it just filled up the whole sky. Literally gold raining down on us - prettttty amazing.

Woohooo the beginning of a three day birthday spectacular. Lol my roommate was finally turning 18! Did a shit ton of shopping, eating, sweating, pool, video games, (alotalotalot of walking) and some karaoke. Had a good time ^^ We also watched Wreck It Ralph at this amphitheater-type stage in Boston. (also in case you're wondering, most of that tip was paid in dollar-coins. We're not thhaat cheap)

Last day in the city! mmm bubble tea. mmm muscular-tanned-50-year-old man. What a boss drawing on the sidewalk and puffing on a cigarette. After eating at Taiwan Cafe in Chinatown, we did some sight seeing! Boston is so beautiful - it's kind of sad how we've never really explored the city we practically live in. Definitely something I'm going to make an effort to do this year!

Had some jam time with Shalom. Victor being classy, as usual. Went to an arcade/pool hall, ate our $4 cheesesteak meals, had a good time. Man I wish our town had a place like that. Actually I just wish I had friends with pool tables lol. Speaking of which, my friend asked me to be a rush girl for his frat, and at first I was a little iffy since I'm kind of awkward and not very outgoing at all, but then he mentioned that I could just play pool all day. Sold. Lol so easily bought. Maybe by the end of rush, I'll be a pool shark. Ha, here's to hoping.

Hmm…I'm supposed to wake up early to run and then go grocery shopping…. I don't think I believe in myself enough to make that happen. Hehe, we'll see. Gooooood night ^^

The Sun Always Rises

Currently listening to my dad and sister argue in the back seat over whether she has ever pooped her pants. Lol. She's vehemently denying it while my dad's trying to convince her that she did when she was younger.  I realize this is a pretty weird way to start a new post, especially after not blogging for a month and a half. But I could honestly think of no better way. Anyway, I spent that non-blogging-time taking a shit-ton of pictures, so here they are in all their glory with outrageously long captions.

After a delicious (and geniusly constructed) breakfast (carrot and broccoli omelet) we headed to the Crayola Factory to celebrate father's day! I actually had a blast making markers/crayons/puzzles and coloring in coloring pages lol. Not sure who was having more fun, my sister or me hahaha

Recently got commissioned for the first time! Worked on it while marathoning Marvel movies. I think I watched Thor, Captain America, Iron Man 2 & 3, The Incredible Hulk, and the Avengers over the span of two days lol. What has my life come to? Also I stumbled across an amazing portrait artist recently and was inspired to try my own. So I creeped through Facebook and ended up drawing courtney :)

MORE FOOD.  Fried rice and tea with Emma. Quality Five Guys with Nicole and Brian (he eats peanuts with the shell on) The rest is from family vacation to Williamsburg and Myrtle Beach :) 

Random pictures! Hit the beach and encountered the biggest pizza I have ever had the pleasure of eating.  Lunch break from work (that place is eating me alive). Watched Nic Cage simultaneously on three laptops, but the movie speed was slightly different on all three so we kept having to sync them up. Also my sister is a fairy princess. 

Busch Gardens and Water Country USA! Man I love culture-themed amusement parks (like Epcot). Also, I finally triumphed over my fear/inability to use tampons. You see that victorious smile on my face? Sorry if this is tmi, but hey, it was an important milestone in my life. 

Colonial Williamsburg! Watching the fifes and drums was pretty awesome. Also got to see all the trade shops like the weaver's, silversmith, seamstress, etc.  Best part might've been sitting next to a pile of horse poop in 90 degree heat while listening to a reenactment of the Declaration of Independence. Not.  

Myrtle Beach! Sand castles and sand-faces.  Catching fish with a dinky little net (I CAUGHT THREE!!) Watching Fireworks with the family. My first german dining experience. And a broken glass (lol i thought it was artsy) We also binged on Friends every night. Probably watched 20 episodes.  Don't even get me started on Spongebob. D: My sister is addicted to television.

Got dragged out of bed at 5:30  to watch the sunrise. Gotta admit, the suffering was definitely worth it. The sun reflecting off the clouds and water was absolutely breathtaking. Lol check me out raising the sun.

Exploring the boardwalk! Mega candy store… They had candy bras, handcuffs, and g-strings lol. Went to the "Gay Dolphin" and actually found my name on a little license plate! I was so blown away that I bought it immediately. Who knows what I'm gonna do with a little piece of plastic, but it was too rare of an opportunity to pass up. We also went to this really cute tiki bar and my mom got this amazing spicy schnitzel sandwich.

Last two days! Saw an amazing show at the Alabama Theater. It was one of those compilation shows that span over a bunch of different music and dance genres (mainly focusing on country and soul, but hey it's the south what do you expect) Also check out my parents lol. Best part is that I told them which holes to go to, without them knowing that they were gender-bending. My mom was horrified when she saw the pictures. We left early the next day during a torrential downpour. I guess Myrtle beach was sad to see us go :( We were sad too, so we ate away our feelings with some quality McDonalds. 

WOOO finally done. I will post soon about last weekend's adventures in Boston! But for now, bed time ^^ Hopefully 4 hours is enough to last me through work tomorrow. Lol who am I kidding. I'll probably face plant on my desk….again. -_-

A Little Bit of Heaven...

…is a movie that got a whopping 4% on rotten tomatoes! LOL. That's quite impressive actually, seeing as how Avatar the Last Airbender (quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen) managed to get away with a 6%.  But maybe the saddest part is that… I watched this 4-percenter and actually really enjoyed it.  Some of the reviews called it a "bummerfest" that wasn't sad enough to make someone cry nor funny enough to make them laugh. I cried my face off.  Awkward.  Another one said it was for "people who have a lot of time to waste".  Though they might be on the money with that one haha. But come on, Magic Mike got a 80%! WTF, Channing's abs are not that persuasive are they?  Or maybe I should just accept that I have terrible taste in movies.

Anyway, yesterday I started my first real job! It's mad boring, and I feel like I'm wasting their company's money by being there.  Seriously, I literally did nothing today but play iPhone games (caannddyyy cruuusshhh) and try my best to stay awake.  How sad.  It's probably because it's the beginning of their start-up so they are still getting everything sorted out and organized.  Hopefully I will have stuff to do tomorrow! But what I'm reeaallly looking forward to is….my first paycheck! I have big plans for that thing.  Probably going to spend it on art supplies, some oil painting classes, clothes, art supplies, headphones, and maybe some art supplies.  Lately I've been focusing more on art.  I want to get better! Yesterday I was browsing through some online galleries, and came across an artist that almost made me cry just by looking at his work.  I want to be able to make art like that one day.  So this summer I will do my best to improve!  

I held the left one up in front of my lamp to make it glow! Haha I guess you could call that cheating :) I'm pretty happy with how both came out, although I think there is something wrong with the bun-head's left boob. Too close to the other one? Not the same size? Hmm.

And last but not least… FOOD. So. much. beautiful. food. Been going out to lunch with my mom a lot recently while my sister's at preschool…hehe so relaxing~ 

So there you have it; that's what I've been spending my life doing! Watching movies, drawing, and eating. I also forgot to mention that me and Nicole got Brian to watch the High School Musical trilogy with us.  Except he kept making clever little comments on insignificant parts of the movie and not paying attention. So much in fact, that after we were finished all three, he told us he didn't know what any of the movies were about. -_-

Recently my dad and I managed to run our town's annual 5K!  The whole time we were running I had this raging internal conflict going on between my mind and body. It's pretty sad actually - eventually I made myself keep going because a little kid behind me shouted "Don't stop! You can do it!" I was so moved by his words that it filled me with newfound determination. Lol just kidding - I figured that it'd be way too pathetic if I stopped to walk and have a 8-year-old pass me.  And so, we managed to break 28 minutes! Thank you little kid.

Anyway, I should probably sleep so I can wake up early enough for Kaykay's preschool graduation! They call it "moving-up day". Too cute.  Good night!

Fast Forward Again Please!

So....about that promise to blog more regularly...sorry.  Skip forward another month, and it's november! Actually, it's already been november for about two weeks.  Anyway, since the last time I've blogged, a lot more has happened! Eunice and I made a short movie for our film-mking seminar which turned out pretty weird, but was a lot of fun to make. We also went on a pretty crazy biking adventure with Randi a few weeks ago.  So we have a list of 101 things to do by graduation, and #87 is to bike the Minutemen Trail.  It starts in Alewife, Cambridge and runs north 11 miles to Bedford. We stupidly started the ride at around 4 pm and by the time we were almost to Bedford, it was already pitch-black outside.  The trail was unlit, so we used our iphone lights to make the rest of the trip there. Once we got there, the plan was to take a bus.....which apparently conveniently did not run on Sundays. When we asked a shop keeper, he told us that our best bet was to bike 8 miles to Arlington and try to catch a bus there. I don't know how, but we managed to make it there by biking practically on the highway.  It was mad scary, and pretty reckless of us :\ anyway, eventually we caught the bus that took us to Harvard and biked the two miles back to MIT.  Never. Again. Atleast we got to cross it off the list, but it took a few days for my butt to recover from that ride.

Oh yeah, speaking of biking, the reason I was able to get my bike in the first place is because my family brought it with them when they came for parent's weekend!! It was really nice to see them, and I had a lot of fun going out to eat some quality chinese food (finally!!!) and walking around harvard square.  We also went to a mini carnival and I took some cute photobooth pics with kaykay :) Before they left, I rode around in our car for a few minutes, and it got me all nostalgic. I miss my squeaky toyota :( Good thing I get to go home in exactly ONE WEEK! I was a little late with the whole booking-a-way-home thing, but managed to find a bus-line that I've never heard of and bought tickets.  Hopefully it's not that sketchy.  I felt kind of adventurous and almost bought tickets for the chinatown bus ...but arriving in chinatown at night is a little too adventurous for me.  

Also this past month was halloween! Me and my friends dress up as playing cards :) We bought the sweatshirts for only $5 a pop and used fabric markers to make them. Finding sweatshirts/shirts in the first place was kind of a challenge, and we walked up and down Mass Ave. for practically 3 hours looking for them. We hurriedly ate dinner and decorated them at top speed.  Then me and Eunice went to our IM badminton game while they tried to dry the sweatshirts with a blow-drier. I didn't play badminton very often back home, and I have no idea why because it's so freaking fun. Maybe that's my inner asian emerging.  Speaking of asians, almost all of my friends are asian minus one or two.  My friends back at home asked me if I'm going to college in Boston or China. They're funny. Anyway, after that we came back, got dressed, and showed up mega-late for spooky skate, which is when they open up the ice rink and you can skate for free.  We waited in line only to find out that they'd run out of our sizes :( Eventually we got our hands on skates and went around once....sad. But strangely fulfilling (it's on the list!). Afterwards we decided to head over to Boston and go to Chan's frat for a bit. It was a black-light party and hey had completely chalked all the walls with glow-chalk.  It was pretty trippy and awesome. Chan got his big to give us some vodka that burned the hell out of my throat, so I barely drank any. By the time we left at 2, he was in the process of getting pretty drunk, ripping his shirt off and dancing around.  The night after that was pumpkin drop! At midnight we were gathered around the Green Building (tallest building in Cambridge), waiting for the first liquid-nitrogen infused pumpkin to fall. They launched around 100 pumpkins, which all exploded upon impact.  It was kind of awesome. 

In other news, my friend I-Ling is part of a frat called Alpha Delta Phi, so we usually go with him to a lot of their events.  A few weeks we went to their semi-formal which included dinner and a trip to the Boston Opera House to watch Warhorse. Our dates were late and then we somehow didn't get the right tickets so we only saw the second half of the play.  Not really sure what went on...but the horses were mad realistic and the gun shots were really loud. I think the highlight was eating food, and then the 7 11 slurpee afterwards. This weekend (lol finally caught up to the present) we went to their M-night which stands for martini night. So we got suited up and battled over to the frat house in heels.  The martinis all smelled really good and tasted really bad. I still can't understand why people drink :\ We played a round of pool, in which me and me partner kicked I-Ling's ass. Then went upstairs to check out the casino games.  Some people were really into it and were winning big time, but we just threw around some chips on roulette.  I heard the winner would get an iPad mini, but there was no way that was gonna happen for us. We sat around until a few guys approached us and started making small talk. They were a little pretentious and pissed me off, but my roomie just told me to nod and smile, which worked wonderfully. Eventually she started talking to this guy I-Ling brought over (because they're into the same webcomic) and another guy came over to talk to me.  Unlike the others, this guy was nice and I felt pretty comfortable talking with him.  He showed me a bunch of card tricks (I got tricked by all of them) and we managed to leave the frat house at around 2:30, then journeyed over to CVS to buy red hairspray for Kevin (he lost a bet against me). We couldn't find any, so instead we got funions, tights, and nail polish. Close enough. After we got back we stayed up for no reason until past 6....oh my college sleeping schedule.

On sunday I was going to start homework I think, but managed to not. Next house was having a party, so we went over at around 11.  The music was pretty good, but the light system was insane.  They had a DJ there specifically for lights.  Also it was kind of a nice change to dance without worrying about getting caught in between two couples making out and grinding the hell out of each other. Dorm parties are so different from frat parties haha. Joyce came back to Simmons with us, and we got to talk for a little which was kind of nice since I hadn't really seen her around since orientation.  Mainly because we never go to parties with her even when she calls us. :\ She said she makes an effort to try and go out atleast a few times a week, and said we should go with her. I think i'll take her up on the offer since I feel like sometimes we're mad antisocial. Anyway, yesterday we had off for veteran's day, but we spent a lot of it studying for today's math midterm, yuck. After the midterm, I dragged some people to McDonald's with me to celebrate! I've been planning this for a while actually....man I really missed that place.  Got myself a frappe, and drank it while walking to the Z center in the rain.  I was so cold but it was sooooo worth it.  I also got an 100 on that math midterm, so now I get to cross off #3 on the list: Ace a test! WAAAHH!! Now i'm celebrating by not doing any work.  I'll deal with it all tomorrow night :') Time to go play badminton---!

Holy crap I don't even know how to start this post.  I really need to make blogging more of a habit so I don't end up sitting here trying to remember everything that's happened in the last ten days.  It might not sound so difficult, but with my pathetic memory, it's pretty hard to do.  Anyway, last weekend we had an indoor drumline competition.  The school was so freaking cool.  The walls were covered in giant murals of paintings by famous artists, many of which I knew (to my surprise. I guess Mr. V's art rambles really did rub in).  Like holy crud, why can't our school be that cool?  I'm president of the National Art Honor Society at my school (which is kind of a joke) and I've been trying to get our supervisor to agree to some murals in the music and drama wing of our school.  I am so bringing these pictures in to help persuade her.  Our walls are so naked :( it's embarrassing. Anyway, some highlights of this week include eating subway for the first time in my life.  I got chicken teriyaki with sweet onion sauce and it was pretty delicious.  Also, it was free cookie day, and the raspberry cheesecake cookie I got was heavenly.  Thursday after indoor practice, we went to this new froyo place that just opened in town on that very day.  It was deliicciouuss.  That saves me many trips in the future to the next town over cuz we have our own frozen yogurt place now.  So ha, take that! On friday, during lunch we drove to Wendy's (I know, how bad ass right?), and I got some chili, yum yum. Then for dinner, we went to that Japanese place again, and I got to try green tea ice cream tempura for the first time! It was gigantic and oh so perfect.  Lol is it sad that like 4 out of 5 highlights from the week involve food? Also, on wednesday there was a reception for an art show (that I won 1st place in for colored pencils!) so I went to that and got to look at all the amazing art.  I took way more than this, but I limited myself to posting only(?) three.

Then yesterday we had another indoor competition....and it was 2 hours away fml.  But we made it there in one piece and gave a semi shitty performance, before driving another 2 hours home. Oh the horrors.  I spent alot of time playing this awesome new game on my iphone called "draw something".  I think I have an obsession complex. Whenever I get hooked on something, I get really hooked on it for a while, until I move onto my next obsession. Anyway, "draw something" it basically like pictionary.  I get a word, draw it, and then my friend guesses it and draws me something back. Alot of people complain to me that I spend way too much time and effort on my drawings, but hey, haters gonna hate. After the competition we went to the diner, and with the help of my fellow drummers, constructed the masterpiece that you see below.  Isn't it beautiful? Today was a somewhat chill sunday. I went to the mall with my mom to return some stuff wearing my trusty new cross-body black coach bag.  That's right, coach. I received it yesterday in the mail! A graduation present from a family friend. Pretty sweet, huh? Then in the afternoon we had a short shalom practice.  One of many to kick off the week!  Our show's on friday! So many things to look forward to in the coming weeks.  Next friday's production week for the musical, which means rehearsal everyday after school until 10pm for the cast, pit (me) and crew.  I still need to learn my percussion parts! eeep! Then as soon as that's over, the Japanese kids are coming! I'm hosting a girl again, and she recently emailed me...which reminds me that I need to email her back. I can't wait! And only a few weeks after that....JAPAN.  Just a warning, major blogging will ensue  in the next month, accompanied by massive picture spam. And after that is MIT preview weekend, and then Death Cab for Cutie concert, and then prom, and then prom weekend, and then graduation!
